Egyptian ibis head sells for £4,200

Auctioneers in Crew, Cheshire, UK, have auctioned off a bronze head of an Ibis dating from circa 664-525 BC. It was estimated at £2,000 to £2,500 but sold to a telephone bidder for £4,200.  In Egyptian art, the god Thoth was often depicted as a man with the head of an ibis or a baboon.  See: Crewe Chronicle
