the other week I visited what is thought to the the world's oldest known shipwreck. This wreck - known as the Kyrenia ship - is a 4th century BC Greek merchant ship. The ship would have sailed in the Mediterranean during the time of Alexander the Great. It sank in open waters less than a mile from the anchorage of Kyrenia and was originally discovered in 1965, lost again and rediscovered in 1967. It is now housed in Kyrenia Castle, where I took this photograph.From the remains of its cargo - including more than 400 wine amphoras, mostly made in Rhodes, alomnds in jars and millstones, archaeologists have suggested that the ship at at some stage visited Anatolia, and Samos, Kos and Rhodes before heading to Cyprus
.All this started me this started me think about whether this ship would ever have visited Egypt and then about Ancient Egypt shipwrecks. Does anybody know if any have been discovered? If so, can you supply me with any details.
