Film fantasy: Egyptology, resurrecting Ramesses II and a rampaging pterodactyl

If you like your Egyptology spiced up with comic book fantasy, then you might enjoy French filmmaker Luc Besson's latest film Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec (The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec). Apparently, it's also known as Adele: Rise of the Mummy in Malaysia and Singapore.

Based on a Franco-Belgian comics series, written and illustrated by French comics artist Jacques Tardi, Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec is set in Paris in 1912 where a certain Professor Espérandieu hatches a 136 million year old pterodactyl egg within the Museum of Natural History which subsequently wreaks havoc on Paris.

Our heroine, Adèle Blanc-Sec, a journalist, finds herself involved in all this after returning from Egypt where she started a quest to find the Pharaoh's mummified doctor. She intends to revive the mummy - apparently - resurrection of Ramesses II – with the help of professor Espérandieu in order to save her sister, Agathe, who is in a coma following an unfortunate incident.

If this sounds like your type of entertainment, check out the trailer here. It was released in France last year and now has a limited release in the UK.

  1. Looks like it will be an entertaining movie. Did you know Dassault Systemes have created a free iPhone app for the movie?

  2. Hello. I didn't when I posted the story but I saw a reference to it late last night. Thanks for the link.

It looks like one of these movies that might be difficult to see on the big screen.

    Maybe wait for the DVD.
