Massive statue of Amenhotep III rediscovered

A 13 metre (42 foot) tall statue of Amenhotep III has been unearthed at pharaoh's mortuary temple in Luxor. The statute was one of a pair that flanked the northern entrance to the temple.

The statue, according to press reports, consists of seven large quartzite blocks but the head is missing. The statute was first discovered in the 1928 and then rehidden. Archaeologists expect to find its twin in the next digging season.
