Egyptologist Toby Wilkinson on Ancient Egypt

As an Egyptologist for the past 20 years, Toby Wilkinson has published seven books surrounding his research into ancient Egyptian civilization. His newest entitled "The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt" looks 3,000 years back into Egypt during the times of Pepi II, who was made king as an infant, eleven pharaohs named Ramesses and Nefertiti.

Written in his “free time,” the book took two years to complete with nearly 20 academics, friends and editors reading and fact checking the information. Speakeasy talked with Wilkinson about the germination of his interest in Egypt, the often-tricky diplomacy of recovering artifacts and the dystopian reality of the countries ancient rulers.
