Protests stop Egypt excavations

The German Archaeological Institute, or DAI, said Monday in Berlin that it had asked many of its 30 egyptologists in Cairo to stay in shared accommodation for their own safety.

The DAI office, which has a staff of eight, had someone in it 24 hours a day to thwart thieves and looters.
