Egyptian Mau cat: worshipped, cherished, protected and even mummified

The Egyptian Mau is not only a cat of great history but also of great importance. The Mau is believed to be the cat pictured in the works of ancient Egypt. They have been worshipped, cherished, protected and even mummified. While a very old breed their history in North America is relatively short. The Mau was first introduced into North America by Nathalie Troubetskoy in 1956. They achieved recognition by The Cat Fanciers’ Association in 1977.
