Just when and where the very first wedding took place is consigned to those long lost history books. What we do know, however, is that whenever and wherever it was, it proved a major turning point for humanity. It is reckoned that the ancient Egyptians invented engagement as a way for intended couples to get to know each other and make sure they were compatible.
